What the Science Says is an online resource is intended to fight misinformation by exploring and clearly presenting the scientific facts behind claims made in the press and on social media. We will examine relevant claims from the media, reports or manifestos; look into the evidence; and support, explain or correct them. Our aim is to assess the science behind these various claims to understand how well supported they are.

What the Science Says is set up solely for the purpose of fact-checking and is a distinct sub-section of the GWCT.

What the Science Says is committed to the principles of the International Fact-Checking Network (IFCN), and run in accordance with them as follows:

  1. A commitment to non-partisanship and fairness.
  2. A commitment to transparency of sources. 
  3. A commitment to transparency of funding and organisation. 
  4. A commitment to transparency of methodology.
  5. A commitment to open and honest corrections.
